Until recently the process of digitization of organisation has been to transport the current manual process by the computers. Information was presented the way the data was processed by the computers. With ubiquitous availability of mobile devices, presentation was dissociated; however, the data and processing were tightly bound.
Users expect reliable and quality business information with zero latency. This is forcing organizations to rethink the way information systems/services are we designed and operated. Organizations have learned to manage the data-silo issues by using database management systems with assistance of data-dictionaries. However, with increasing use of personal devices, the problem has shifted to managing information that is contained in data, documents in corporate registries, and corporate knowledge assets and memory. It got further complex due to the scale of Big Data and need for Business Analytics and Business Intelligence.
